“That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste.” —John Green
There is a saying that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. What one individual considers beautiful may not be beautiful to another. Different people have different perspectives on looking at the same thing. It is like a game played by the mind and our eyes which reflects on our vision.
Beauty is not just something that pleases the eyes but also has an impact on other senses as well as the mind. Beauty, for me as a person, is about being the best possible version of yourself, in the inside as well as on the outside because an original is always better than a copy.
When we talk about beauty in people, we often refer to their physical attractiveness. I agree that a pretty face is pleasant to look at, but I find that the most memorable, beautiful people are those who have captivating personalities, those who are ready to lend a hand to help a person in trouble and those who try to right the injustices happening in the world. True beauty makes you see beyond the lovely sight. Two well known personalities who exemplify this are Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa. Mandela was willing to sacrifice his life and freedom to secure equal rights for all the Blacks in South Africa whereas Mother Teresa’s mission was to help the poorest of the world’s poor.
Everything around is unique in its own sense but not everyone sees it or even tries to see it. Beauty is not something that needs to be seen by the eyes but can also be felt by the heart. People who have beauty in their heart and care for their fellow beings have acquired inner peace. This inner beauty gives a certain radiance to their looks. Even around me, I know people who are always there to help a person in need. I greatly admire the beauty of these people.
“When you are balanced, and when you listen and attend to the needs of your body, mind, and spirit, your natural beauty comes out.” —Christy Turlington
I also love the beauty of art. To me, the beauty of an artwork lies not just in the skills involved but an artwork is attractive in the real sense when it hits the onlooker and evokes an emotional reaction.
Some people think that beautiful things are attainable only when you’re rich. I completely disagree with this. Everyone has their own idea of beauty. Even though physical appearances attract the eyes, it is the character and personality of a person that captures the heart. According to me, beauty is what comes from within and reflects on our eyes, that’s the beauty experienced by the beholder. In the words of a poet, “a thing of beauty is a joy forever”.
“Beauty is not something you buy; instead, beauty is what lies within.” —Byron Pulsifer
